Dr. James Ransom

Growing up on a farm in England, Dr. Ransom was raised around the unconditional love of animals. His mother adored animals of all kinds and the family cared for a variety of dogs, cats, goats, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, and llamas. His childhood Boxer, Nessie, and Maine Coon cat, Tom, inspired Dr. Ransom to become a veterinarian and are now permanent features of the Alona Animal Hospital logo.

Dr. Ransom graduated from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009 and has worked professionally with animals for more than twenty years. Inspired by his passion for shelter pets, he spent seven years at San Diego Humane Society where he saved thousands of animals lives, many of whom were victims of abuse and neglect, before transitioning back to private practice.

Dr. Ransom also spent time volunteering with World Vets, the Humane Society of the United States, Veterinary Medical Association, and Maui Humane Society. He has traveled to Nicaragua, Guatemala, Peru, Tijuana, North Dakota and Maui to provide free veterinary care where it’s needed most. He is also a former Clinical Instructor of Veterinary Medicine at the Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Ransom is a proud member of the American Veterinary Medication Association, the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and the California Veterinary Medical Association. He is also a USDA accredited veterinarian.

When he’s not caring for animals, Dr. Ransom loves spending time with his wife and family, hiking with their dogs, Gracie and Finn, and supporting his favorite sports teams the LA Galaxy and Tottenham Hotspur.
